A night like this is invaluable for a student of any department, especially communications, pop culture and film, whose career destinations are blurred. I’m sure there are many students like myself who are apprehensive about what will come after university. But it would help to know that there are people out there with a degree like the one I’m working towards who are finding work in their desired field. I have many aspirations writing, art direction, editing, reviewing, criticizing, just about anything besides getting in front of the camera itself. But of course when I tell people that I’m a film major (more specifically, skeptical adults) I am without fail faced with various forms of the same question: What do you plan to do with your degree? For me the answer is a short one, I haven’t a clue. Second year is infinitely better than first year and I’m starting to meet and connect with a lot more people in my major. 'Hello! I’m a second year film major and so far I’m loving it.

It's my number one distraction from studying right now.Ĭlips from the show are available from the official CBC Wiretap website: I've been listening sporadically for a few years, but since I've discovered online feeds of the show it has become my addiction. Wiretap is a scripted, spoken word program by Jonathan Goldstein on CBC radio. Listeners could enjoy being entertained as they ironed shirts, shocked as they rinsed out their stockings, scandalized as they picked saltine crumbs out of the carpet.! As we all perform our number one soul-crushing chore during this special time of year, studying for exams, radio drama can once again fill the void.

Housewives in the 1930s and 40s had the high melodrama of radio soap operas to keep them company while they performed their domestic duties.

Public radio has more to offer these days than the deep-cutting sarcasm of Rex Murphy’s dry political commentaries.
